About The Cottage on Broadway

Seinfeld comedy icon Jason Alexander takes his talents to the director's chair, staging Sandy Rustin's world-premiere farce The Cottage. Set an alert for The Cottage tickets on TodayTix and get ready to blow the roof off the Hayes Theater with laughter.

The Cottage is a play about secrets, sex, romance, and, possibly, murder. What more could you ask for? Well, if you said a star-studded cast, The Cottage has that too, and that’s no joke. Alexander has assembled Will & Grace’s Eric McCormack, Legally Blonde’s Laura Bell Bundy, Tootsie’s Lilli Cooper, SNL star Alex Moffat, and more. How can all that talent fit into one little cottage? You’ll have to stop by to find out.

In the English countryside in 1928, a woman having an affair decides to come clean to her husband and her lover's wife at the same time — sounds efficient, right? Maybe, but she sets off a snowball effect of secrets getting revealed and relationships hilariously turning upside down, making for mile-a-minute gags.

Listen in on the drama for yourself. Set an alert to find out when tickets to The Cottage on Broadway are available.

Tell Me More

Jason Alexander has directed for the screen before, but he makes his Broadway directorial debut with The Cottage in New York. He's performed in six Broadway shows before, winning a Tony for Jerome Robbins' Broadway in 1989, but he's best known as Jerry's best friend George Costanza on the classic sitcom Seinfeld.

In The Cottage, he directs a trio of fellow comedy aces with Emmy and Tony honors to their name. You likely know Eric McCormack best as Will Truman on Will & Grace, for which he won an Emmy and earned several award nominations. Laura Bell Bundy and Lilli Cooper are both Tony nominees: Bundy was nominated for playing Elle Woods in Legally Blonde and Cooper for Julie Nichols in Tootsie.

What to Watch For

  • Jason Alexander made his Broadway debut in Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along in 1981. That musical will have its first Broadway revival in fall 2023, just as The Cottage wraps up.
  • The Cottage is inspired by the plays of Noël Coward, who wrote comedies of manners set in early 20th-century England.
  • Two actors in The Cottage return to Broadway after long hiatuses. McCormack last appeared in The Best Man in 2012, and Bundy in Legally Blonde in 2007.
  • Rustin is no stranger to period comedies. She adapted Jonathan Lynn’s screenplay for Clue, the 1950s-set comedy whodunnit, into a 2022 play. American Theatre magazine recognized Rustin’s adaptation of Clue as one of the most produced shows of the 2022-23 season.
  • Rustin also wrote the book for a new musical adaptation of the hit Julia Roberts film Mystic Pizza.
